FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY

What we believe about God matters, How we live out that faith matters.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Continuing to sharing on raising and being a exsample of living out our faith for children, grandchildren and families.

“Train up a child in the way he should go;

even when he is old he will not depart from it”

(Proverbs 22:6).

Too often we read a verse like this and want to

cling to it as a promise: If we just do it right, our

kids will be okay. Or maybe we see it as a terrible

truth, knowing we have failed big time and the

kids will never recover. Neither of these views are

particularly true.

God is at work in every heart, independent of our performance as parents.

In the Book of 1 Kings, we find multiple examples

of sons following the sinful paths of their fathers.

Ahab follows in the sinful footsteps of his father,

Omri (1 Kings 16:25-28),but Asa breaks the

pattern of his father Abijah. Asah “did what was

right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father

had done” (1 Kings 15:11).

Every person has their own journey of faith. While our influence on our children matters, only God can transform a heart to follow him.

While we must take our jobs as parents

seriously, the source of our children’s faith has to

be a transformed heart, through Jesus and not

by our own creation or behavior modification.

By trusting God to do the transforming work of

salvation, through the conviction of the Holy Spirit,

parents do not have to live in fear that they are ruining their children’s lives when mom or dad

inevitably mess up. By trusting God to transform

hearts, we can be confident that, regardless of our

history, before Christ our children do not have to

walk the same path.

Still, there are no guarantees. While we pray that

not one of us must walk through something as

painful as watching our children turn from God, we all will be faced with times when we don’t know what to do to help them.

For Christians, we can have faith that even when we can’t help, God is still present in our lives and the lives of our children.

We can persevere, never giving up on our children,

knowing that God can both empower us to love

unconditionally through his Spirit, and can convict

and empower our children according to his will.

Make a FAITH CONNECTION be an example!

Father, we thank You for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren our families, may we be that example of living out our faith, may we an influence in their to look to you, and knowing that they like us have a free - will to make decisions.

Let us not be disappointed, discourage if we see them making bad choices, but rather hold on to our faith just as you got though to us you will them. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ Amen
